The Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD), the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC), and the Space Operations Mission Directorate (SOMD) are currently gathering requests for High-End Computing (HEC) time on NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) computing resources for Operational Year 2010 beginning May 1, 2010 and expiring April 30, 2011.

Please submit a request if you are in need of computing time for a new project or if you are currently using NAS resources and would like to renew your project for the 2010 Operational Year. Projects that are not renewed by April 23, 2010 will be disabled on May 1, 2010.

There is a new process for submitting requests for computing time on NAS HEC resources, using the e-Books online system.

To submit your requests, please use the e-Books website:

Please see Computing Systems Overview for information regarding HEC resources currently available. Please contact ebooks@reisys.com with questions concerning the e-Books system. If additional assistance is required to complete your request, please submit a ticket to support@nas.nasa.gov.

Current Principal Investigators (PIs):

Accounts have already been created in e-Books for current PIs. To obtain your e-Books login name and password, click on the "Forgot Password?" link and enter the requested data (first name, last name, email address, and zip code) to get your username and password sent to you by e-Books. Note that for several people the system has stored their first name as "first name + middle initial(s)." Please try adding your middle initial(s) to the field for your first name if your account is not found initially. If you have trouble accessing your account, the e-Books help desk at 703-480-9100 is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern Time. Instructions for renewing your project are posted within e-Books.

New PIs:

Anyone who is not a current PI for an ESMD, NESC, or SOMD project should click on "User Registration" link and follow the directions to obtain an e-Books username and password.

When submitting your request within e-Books, you will be asked to enter/update information about your project (Cover Sheet form) and to provide information about your computing and related requirements (Summary of Requirements form). On the Cover Sheet, please be sure to enter the appropriate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and the WBS funding manager for your project. Your WBS will not be charged, but your WBS funding manager will be contacted to approve your use of HEC resources for the new Operational Year. Also, please give a brief explanation of the purpose of your project within the Abstract field.

ESMD PIs Only:

For ESMD PIs that will be renewing multiple group identification numbers (GIDs) for the same project, please complete the renewal process for your primary GID as well as all task and access control GIDs. When renewing primary GIDs, include anticipated requirements for all tasks associated with your project for the entire operational year. For task GIDs, enter the amount of resources required for that task alone.
